Peregian Beach has been chosen to trial a new car parking initiative this April.
Research has shown that driving to town and finding a space is becoming increasingly difficult.
To reduce demand on car spaces a ‘Colour Coding’ is going to be introduced in the car parks on the Eastern corners of the village.
On Mondays – Red will be the only car colour allowed to park in these areas.
Tuesday – Cars coloured White & Cream
Wednesday – Blue & Green
Thursday – Grey’s & Black
Friday – Yellow & Golds
Saturday- All the other colours and two toned vehicles
Sunday – any colour.
Study overseas show that this system opens up car space availability for different car users on different days.
Large signs with all the days & colours will be erected at each car park entrance and along streets leading to Village.
Cyclists, bus commuters and people walking into town will be exempt from the restrictions.
Peregian Beach will be the first town in Australia to adopt this trial.
It is anticipated that the cafes looking onto the foreshore reserve will experience a spike in trade this week as patrons come to view the sea of cars become colour coordinated.
